Summer senior recreation classes announced
Elderly Recreation Services Summer classes will run in 10-week sessions July 7 through Sept. 12, excluding holidays and are open to anyone aged 55 and older. Most registration fees are $10 per session and can be paid in advance at the West Hawaii Civic Center or to the instructor on the first day of class. West Hawaii classes available this session are as follows:
• Line dancing, 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Waikoloa Community Church.
• Line dancing, 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays beginning July 23 at Waimea Community Center.
• Line dance aerobics, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays at Hale Halawai.
• Aquatic aerobic and swim classes at the Kona Community Aquatic Center. Beginning July 29 is deep water aerobics from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Beginner adult swim lessons, 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.
Intermediate adult swim sessions, 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursdays.
• Senior fitness classes, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Mondays at the Kona Aerial Gymnastics gym, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays at Hale Halawai, and 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursdays at Yano Hall.
• Senior yoga, 8:30 a.m. Mondays and 8:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. Fridays at Hale Halawai. Cost is $5 per class.
• Chair yoga for seniors, 10 a.m. Mondays at Hale Halawai, cost is $5 per class.
• Zumba Gold, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the West Hawaii Civic Center outdoor pavilion.
• Zumba Toning, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Fridays at the West Hawaii Civic Center outdoor pavilion beginning July 11. These classes are geared towards older adults.
• Tai Chi classes, join this new beginner series of classes providing exercises to improve center and balance, 9 a.m. Wednesdays at the Painted Church.
• New dance workshop at 1 p.m. Wednesdays, July 9 through 30 at Hale Halawai.
• Pickleball equipment is provided for free play at the outdoor basketball courts at Kekuaokalani Gym 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Fishing tourney seeks volunteers
The Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament is looking for volunteers to help with the running of the 55th annual tournament. A variety of tournament support is needed, including Kailua Pier operations, HIBT retail boutique, headquarter administration, security and more. Positions will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Each volunteer will receive a HIBT T-shirt and discounted parking for shift volunteers in return for their time.
HIBT event headquarters, retail and tournament control will once again be anchored at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Tournament volunteers are needed July 21 through Aug. 3.

Public comments accepted for Waikoloa munitions removal
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is inviting the public to review and comment on an addendum to phase two engineering evaluation and cost analysis for the former Waikoloa Maneuver Area, a formerly used defense site near Waikoloa Village.
The land was used by troops during World War II for artillery impact, training and live-fire practice. The addendum analyzes alternatives for removing military munitions there. Copies of the addendum are available at the Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library in Waimea and at the Corps’ Honolulu District office at Fort Shafter.
Written comments may be submitted by mail, postmarked no later than Monday, to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Honolulu District, Environmental Programs Branch.
