WASHINGTON — The foundation tasked with selecting a location for President Barack Obama’s presidential library is adding Obama’s half-sister and one of his top former political advisers to its board of directors.
The additions of the president’s half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng and former adviser David Plouffe to the Barack Obama Foundation board come as it is evaluating site proposals. The board hopes to announce a decision in early 2015.
Most often named library candidates are Honolulu, where Obama was born and raised, and Chicago where he worked and established his political base.
Other board members are Obama Chicago friend Martin Nesbitt, Chicago area businessman Kevin Poorman, and former Obama fundraising chief Julianna Smoot, who is shifting her role to direct the foundation’s fundraising.
