The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of July is multimedia artist Beverly Thomas (Rae Beverly).

After Thomas’ eight children were raised, she started her formal art training in 1969 at Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz. Her studies led her to eventually teach watercolor and stained glass classes at the college. During that time she made a large stained glass window for Sacred Heart Church in Prescott. In 1979, Thomas received her associate degree in fine arts and pursued art therapy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ottawa University and two years later earned her master’s degree in art therapy from the Phoenix Art Therapy Institute.

Thomas joined the Blue Sea Artisans Gallery in 2012. She enjoys most mediums. Her goal is “to tell a story through her paintings, sometimes inspirational, often whimsical and to awaken society to issues at stake in today’s world.”

The Blue Sea Artisans will host a featured artist’s reception for Thomas from 1 to 4 p.m. July 12 at the gallery at Kona International Market. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
