Newton plays title role in ‘Annie, Jr.’

The Aloha Performing Arts Company has finalized the cast for its upcoming production of “Annie, Jr.,” based on the popular comic strip “Little Orphan Annie.” The show is directed by guest director Sue Boyum, assistant director is Delaney Ross, choreographer is Nora Frank, set designer is Gerald Lucena and producers are Dale Ross and Annabelle Treacy.

The cast of 38 young actors ranging in age from 6 to 18 welcomes many newcomers to the Aloha Theatre stage. The title role Annie will be played by Riley Newton, last seen in “Fiddler on the Roof.” Other feature characters are Nora Frank as Miss Hannigan, Zachary Kaneshiro as Oliver Warbucks, BrandyAn Amafala-Marquard as Grace, Simon Ellis as Rooster, Malia Moore as Lily, Josiah Clark as Bert Healy and Oliver Hai-Kelly as Sandy. Rounding out the cast as orphans are Milena Freire, Rihanna Goodspeed, Maya Krauss, Leilani Penaloza, Lauren Souther, Mako Yamamoto, Kristen White, Jade Onaka, Taylin Mandaguit, Naia Kipling, Jaiden Hadjes, Mahina Farmer and Psalm Brough. Servants and other featured characters are played by Dyra Alcoran, Maddy Bram, Emily Dungate, Gabriela Freire, Veronika Freire, Parker Gupton, Xander Gupton, Lindsey Hai-Kelly, Isaiah Hooper, Ariana Kaneshiro, Zea Levine, Kainui Penaloza, Miles Prado, Ella Prado and Sarah Rouse.

“Annie, Jr.” plays Fridays and Saturdays July 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays, July 20 and 27 at 2:30 p.m. Adults admission is $12, seniors and young adults $10 and children $5. Tickets are available online at alohatheatre.com, by phone at 322-9924 weekdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., or at the box office beginning one hour prior to performance time.
