Murphy completes basic training
Air Force Airman Jacob R. Murphy graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Murphy is the son of James and Germaine Murphy of Hilo. He is a 2012 graduate of Hilo High School.
Free healing sessions offered
Kokolulu Farm and Retreat Center is offering free healing sessions with Master Peng Xiaoping, an internationally recognized teacher and healer.
The public is invited at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tutu’s House in Waimea or at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the residence of Jacob and Laurie Teitelbaum, 76-6322 Kahelau St. in Kailua-Kona.

Speakers set for July North Hawaii Rotary Club meetings
North Hawaii Rotary Club has announced its speakers for the club’s July meetings, held at Anna Ranch in Waimea.
Anna Peach, artist, educator and heirloom grower of ”Squash and Awe” is her farm in Waimea will share her information and research of heirloom seeds and recipes Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. at Anna Ranch in Waimea.
The only full-time board certified cardiologist on the island, Lawrence Derbes, will speak at 11:45 a.m. July 16 at Anna Ranch.
Keawe Liu, Executive Director of Ke Alii Pauahi Foundation will address the club at 11:45 a.m. July 23.
Kevin Kremeyer and Margaret Chaing, engineers in physics and applied mathematics will speak at 11:45 a.m. July 30 on various engineering projects and establishing sustainable lifestyle off the grid along the Kohala Coast.

Dance classes offered for seniors
Seniors are invited to put on their dancing shoes and learn how to Swing and Foxtrot to the music of the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s. Elderly Recreation Services will hold a dance workshop at 1 p.m. Wednesdays for anyone aged 55 and over at Hale Halawai. This series of classes is just $10 for four weeks.

Line dance classes offered
Line dance classes are held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays for beginners and from 7 to 8 p.m. for more experienced dancers beginning Thursday at the Kona United Methodist Church on Palani Road.
The session cost is $35 for one class, or $49 for both hours. The one night drop-in fee is $7 for one class, $9 for both. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, preferably no brand-new athletic shoes. All ages are welcome and children younger than 12 may attend free of charge.

Co-dependent women meeting Thursday
A Co-Dependents Anonymous women’s meeting meets noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Unity Church sanctuary, 75-5722 Hanama Place.
The 12-step fellowship is comprised of those whose common purpose is recovery from codependence and the development and maintenance of healthy relationships. The nonprofit organization is supported by the voluntary contributions of attending members.

Cultural festival slated at Kahuku
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park’s 34th annual cultural festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 12 at the park’s Kahuku Unit in Ka‘u.
The free event will include hula kahiko, Hawaiian crafts and traditional food tasting. Performers include singer and ukulele artist Diana Aki, kumu hula Mamo Brown and Halau Ulumamo o Hilo Paliku, falsetto singer Kai Hoopii, and kupuna hula by Haunani Medeiros.
Attendees should bring sunscreen, hats, water, rain jackets, and mats or chairs. Pets are not allowed. Lunch and beverages will be available for sale. The Kahuku unit is the southernmost section of the national park at mile marker 70.5 of Highway 11, approximately 42 miles south of the main park entrance at Kilauea.
