Two wooden cabins burned down and a Quonset hut was badly damaged by a Friday morning blaze at the Humuula Sheep Station cabins.

Eight Hawaii Fire Department units responded to the 1:03 a.m. alarm at the site, which bears historical remnants of the island’s sheep farming industry near the junction of Saddle Road and the Mauna Kea Access Road. The fire was under control 32 minutes later, according to a fire department press release. Response personnel from Pohakuloa Training Area were on scene when county firefighters arrived.

There were no occupants in the structures at the time of the fire, which was on Department of Hawaiian Home Lands property. The cause is under investigation.
