The Hawaii Police Department reports that Highway 180, approximately one-mile south of its junction with Highway 190 and Palani Road, in Kailua-Kona is closed in both directions.
The closure follows a traffic accident early Saturday that left a utility pole unsteady in the area, according to police. Hawaii Electric Light Co. crews have just arrived at the scene to conduct repairs.
Both lanes are closed until further notice. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
