Cosgrove joins Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel law firm

Gail Cosgrove joined Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel on July 1. Prior to joining the firm, Cosgrove was officer and director of Hisaka Yoshida & Cosgrove.

Also a lecturer-in-law at University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, Cosgrove has been practicing law for more than 30 years. She centers her work in civil litigation, primarily medical liability, complex litigation, product liability and toxic tort litigation.

Medeiros returns to radio broadcasting

New West Broadcasting announced that longtime broadcaster Lyman Medeiros returns to radio today, as he takes the helm for “Captain Dave,” during afternoon drive time on B93, 93.1 FM Kona, and B97, 97.1 FM Hilo.

An active voice in Hawaii Island music and broadcasting for more than 30 years, Medeiros began his radio career in 1980, after working as a musician here, in Honolulu and elsewhere. Returning home to Hilo, he found a job with KIPA radio, playing Hawaiian music and later classic rock. Along the way, he worked with on-air personalities DC and B Free, whom he will rejoin at B93/B97, and Mynah Bird, early in his career.

Central Pacific Bank collects school supplies

Central Pacific Bank is collecting school supplies and monetary donations throughout July at its 37 branches statewide as part of the Ready to Learn program. Administered by Helping Hands Hawaii, Ready to Learn provides more than 10,000 low-income Hawaii children with classroom supplies at the start of each school year.

All school supply donations are welcome, including crayons, calculators and backpacks. A donation of $10 will purchase one backpack filled with all the items needed.

Mokulele Airlines expands service

Mokulele Airlines is expanding its service between Waimea and Kahului, Maui, by adding a third daily round-trip flight to meet growing demand. Mokulele began offering service from Waimea in September after being awarded the Essential Air Service contract from the Hawaii Department of Transportation. EAS is a government program designed to help ensure that smaller communities have access to commercial air service.

Mokulele will offer 42 weekly flights between the two destinations, including 24 subsidized by the EAS program.

With the new flights, passengers can depart from Kahului at 8:35 a.m. and arrive in Waimea at 9:20 a.m. Maui-bound passengers can depart Waimea at 9:40 a.m. and arrive in Kahului at 10:25 a.m. Fares start at $69 each way, taxes included, some restrictions apply and seats may be limited. Tesoro helping Special Olympics

This summer, drivers who are filling their tanks can also help fuel the dreams of area athletes. Through Aug. 5, motorists can make a donation at any participating Tesoro2Go location statewide to give Special Olympics Hawaii athletes opportunities to compete on a statewide, national and international level.

As part of the monthlong fundraising event, three drawings will be held for $500 in Tesoro fuel cards. Those who donate $5 will receive one entry; those who donate $20 will receive five entries. Donations are not required to enter the drawing.

AMR Air Hawaii blesses fourth air ambulance

AMR Air Hawaii, the only ambulance service in the state accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems, held a traditional Hawaiian ceremony Tuesday at its Honolulu base to bless the fourth air ambulance in its fleet.

AMR Air Hawaii transports patients interisland. The agency’s medical teams meet patients at their bedsides and transport them by American Medical Response ground ambulance to a waiting aircraft. Advanced life support care continues in flight and until the patient is situated in bed at his destination hospital.

Village Burger named to top 10

Village Burger in Waimea was ranked Tuesday among the nation’s top 10 burgers, according to TripAdvisor.com.

The list of the 10 best burgers in the U.S. is based on the reviews and opinions of millions of travelers, according to the online travel website. Village Burger was No. 10 on the list.

TripAdvisor.com’s list touted the Big Island eatery’s use of locally sourced ingredients to create menu items such as the “Big Island” burger and “Kahua Ranch Wagyu” burger. It noted that restaurant-goers can also enjoy a fresh ahi or vegetarian burger.

HouseMart raising funds to help women, keiki

HouseMart Ace Hardware is taking its “helpful place” motto to heart by supporting the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. The neighborhood stores are donating 100 percent of their proceeds from the Children’s Miracle Network Icons campaign to this organization. The drive runs through Sunday at all HouseMart Ace Hardware stores where customers can purchase a Children’s Miracle Network Icon.
