HONOLULU — The search continues for a missing teenager who went for a hike near his Waianae home.

Fifteen-year-old Richard Vierra Jr. was last seen Saturday morning when he left home to go hiking along a nearby trail.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman David Jenkins says the teen called his mother at 11 a.m. to say he was headed home.

The searched was suspended Sunday evening.

The search resumed Monday morning. Jenkins says the teen was about two hours into his hike when he called his mother. Firefighters plan to hike to that point and also search higher elevation areas.

The teen is 5-foot-5, 120 pounds and Caucasian. He has short reddish hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a dark blue shirt with white print, shorts and a light-blue backpack.
