Booths available at Kohala Country Fair
Booth applications are now available for the 30th annual Kohala Country Fair on Oct. 4 in Kapaau. To maximize the success of vendors, booth prices are held at last year’s rates, with discounts for local residents and nonprofit groups. There won’t be a separate Made in Kohala tent this year, so vendors with limited items are encouraged to join one or two friends and apply to share a space.

Free concert slated Friday
Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation and the West Hawaii County Band present a free “Celebrating America Concert” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hale Halawai. Those attending are welcome to bring chairs on which to sit; bench seating will be available.

Lee speaking to women voters group
Current, former and prospective members as well as other interested individuals are invited to join the League of Women Voters of Hawaii County to hear Anne Lee, chairwoman of the Hawaii County Environmental Management Commission, speak at the league’s general meeting July 19 at the Hilo Bay Cafe, 123 Lihiwai St., Hilo.
The business meeting starts at 11 a.m. Lee’s talk will start at 11:30 a.m. Lee serves as the chairwoman of the Hawaii County Environmental Management Commission which advises the Department of Environmental Management on waste reduction strategies, recycling, litter control, community involvement and other issues related to the department that may be delegated to it by ordinance. Its nine members are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council.

Membership is open to all citizens of voting age; noncitizens and citizens not yet of voting age can be associate members. Ka‘u coastal cleanup scheduled Sunday
A Ka‘u coastal cleanup event takes place Sunday at Kamilo Point. Space for a dozen volunteers is available. Volunteers are asked to reserve a space by emailing kahakai.cleanups@gmail.com.
Volunteers will meet at 7:45 a.m. at Waiohinu Park and caravan to the cleanup site. Bring sturdy footwear, bag lunch, snacks, refillable water bottle, sun and wind protection and gloves and bucket. As Kamilo has a protected bay, participants are welcome to bring swimsuits. Hawaii Wildlife Fund will provide extra gloves, some buckets, trash bags, water refills, first-aid kit and a composting lua. Call 769-7629 or email the above address.
Historical society holds online auction
Kona Historical Society will be “Saving Hawaii’s History” by auctioning off a number of unique items including art, activities and antiques and collectibles to raise money for its educational programs.
Items will be sold online at biddingforgood.com/konahistorical from 9 a.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. July 27. Register to bid now to receive email updates when the auction starts.
Native Hawaiian Education Council meets Sunday
The Native Hawaiian Education Council, Hawaii Island Council community will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Konawaena Elementary School cafeteria. This is an open meeting and the public is encouraged to attend. Keiki are welcome. Light pupu will be provided.
