Kahakai registering students next week
Kahakai Elementary School will hold registration for incoming first- through fifth-graders from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July, 16, 17 and 18 in the school cafeteria. New students registering must have in hand a birth certificate and health records, including TB test. Address verification will be required for all new or returning students. Parent information forms, emergency cards, lunch and bus applications and payments will be accepted at this time.
Kindergarten assessments for all registered kindergarten students will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and July 16 in the school library. Parents are reminded to keep to their assigned appointment time.

HFS Federal Credit Union awards scholarships
HFS Federal Credit Union has awarded seven scholarships of $2,500 each to credit union members pursuing their goals of higher education. The scholarships are awarded to outstanding high school seniors in recognition of their academic excellence and community involvement. This year’s recipients are: Sullivan Schuster, West Hawaii Explorations Academy; Kundalini Nicholson-Walker, Hilo High; Khaila Moke-Sakamoto and Sara Kim, Kamehameha Schools Hawaii; Pomaikai Iaea, Ke Kula O Nawahiokalaniopuu; Misty Figueira, Pahoa High; and Charlie Belmes, Keaau High.
Mulvihill achieves HCC dean’s list
Ashley Mulvihill was placed on the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester at Hawaii Community College, University of Hawaii. Mulvihill is the daughter of Judy Mulvihill of Kailua-Kona and the late Matt Mulvihill.
Mattingly earns semester honors
Tateum Mattingly of Kailua-Kona is among the more than 3,400 Kansas State University students who have earned semester honors for their academic performance during the spring 2014 semester.
Students with at least 12 graded hours and whose grade point average for the semester is 3.75 or above receive semester honors. They also receive commendations from their deans and the honors recorded on their permanent academic records.
Byrnes, Aoki are on OSU honor roll
Michaela K. Byrnes and Alexandra M. Aoki have made the scholastic honor roll spring term at Oregon State University. To be on the honor roll, students must carry at least 12 graded hours of course work.
Brynes of Honokaa is a freshman studying pre-athletic training and Aoki of Kealakekua is a senior majoring in merchandising management.
