Hawaii Craftsmen calling for entries
The Hawaii Craftsmen 47th annual Statewide Juried Exhibition is Oct. 10 to Nov. 1 at the Honolulu Museum of Art School. Artists from all islands can enter traditional or nontraditional, functional or nonfunctional craft with a fresh approach in categories of clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood or mixed media. There is $2,500 in cash prizes.
To make it easier for artists to enter, there are three locations islandwide for intake. Final jurying begins at 10 a.m. Sept. 30 at the Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. Selected Big Island entries are shipped to Oahu.
West Hawaii artists may submit entries from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Donkey Mill Art Center, 78-6670 Mamalahoa Highway, Holualoa. Volunteers are needed to help with intake. Call Kate Jacobson at 987-9196
Hamakua Coast entries will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Hugh Jenkins and Stephanie Ross Honokaa Glass Studio. For directions, call 775-1167 or email hujenkins@hawaiiantel.net.
Prior to drop off of artwork, entries should be wrapped securely for transport to Volcano. Large pieces need to be taken directly to Volcano for the Sept. 30 jurying. All others will be transported by volunteers in the artist’s original packed boxes. Any artist who will not be present for jurying and pickup of work should include necessary instructions with their pieces. Ukulele workshops offered in Holualoa
Holualoa Ukulele Gallery and Workshop in Holualoa is offering Ukulele Building for Beginners from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. beginning July 22 or 24. Students will build a koa body concert or tenor ukulele. The class lasts for 10 weeks. There is a fee.

Hilo event celebrates Abled Hawaii Artists Day
An art event will celebrate Abled Hawaii Artists Day and the Americans with Disabilities Act from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 19 at the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art in Hilo.
In its seventh year, the all-inclusive, free event celebrates abilities in the arts. The event will include entertainment on stage as artists with diverse abilities share their passion and sell their artwork. A silent auction will include donated art and gift certificates. Healing arts demonstrations, face painting, and mask and puppet making will also be included.
