Ballroom dancers plan Sunday party

The Kona Ballroom Dance Club is holding a dance party and salsa lesson from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Elks Club in Kailua-Kona. Open dancing in cha cha, waltz, foxtrot, hustle, rumba, bolero and swing is also planned. No partner is needed.

The nonprofit group’s mission is to promote dance in the community. A donation of $5 is requested at the door.

The Elks Club is located on Pawai Place in the Old Industrial Area off Kiawi Street. Parking is in front of Kona Town Storage.

Teams sought for bus pull competition

Special Olympics West-Hawaii will host its “Bus’ a Move” bus pull competition Aug. 16 at Kona Commons.

Teams of 10 will pull a Roberts Hawaii charter bus and have three categories to win: fastest pull, lowest combined weight and an award will be given to the most enthusiastic team.

Teams can register now by calling 345-0433 or email sowhdenise@gmail.com. Event T-shirts will be given to all registered participants. Shirt sizes will not be guaranteed after July 30.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
