A flash flood watch remains in effect for the Big Island until 6 p.m. Monday.

Atmospheric conditions continue to be favorable for locally heavy rain to develop because of the presence of an upper-level trough and ample tropical moisture near the Hawaiian Islands, National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu say.

Although rainfall totals will likely remain highest over windward and mountain areas, the threat for flooding covers all areas of the state, according to forecasters.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead lead to flash flooding, according to the service. Remember that it does not have to be raining heavily where you are for flash flooding to occur. The public is advised to avoid camping or hiking near streams of low-lying flood-prone areas.
