Chamber hosting candidate forums

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce is hosting two candidate forums this month. The state House and Senate forum will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. today. The governor and lieutenant governor forum is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. July 29. Both forums are in the Kealakehe High School cafeteria.

Candidates from House District 6 include Kalei Akaka, Roy Ebert, Nicole Lowen and Kelly Valenzuela. This district covers Kailua-Kona, Holualoa, Kalaoa and Honokohau. District 7 covers North Kona, and North and South Kohala, with Cindy Evans as its sole candidate.

Senate District 3 represents the Kona and Ka’u regions, with candidates Michael Last and Josh Green. District 4, representing portions of Hilo, Hamakua, Kohala, Waimea, Waikoloa and Kona, features incumbent Malama Solomon facing Lorraine Inouye at this forum. The moderator is Sherry Bracken of Hawaii Public Radio and Mahalo Broadcasting.

The governor forum will feature candidates Neil Abercrombie and David Ige, following a face-off between lieutenant governor candidates Clayton Hee and Elwin Ahu. Moderating this forum will be Steve Petranik, Hawaii Business Magazine editor.

These forums are sponsored by the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, Kohala Coast Resort Association, Hawaii Island Realtors, West Hawaii Association of Realtors and West Hawaii Today. Auntie’s Angels seeks donations

Auntie’s Angels will hold its monthly soup kitchen and pantry for the low-income seniors living at Hualalai Elderly Housing Complex on Saturday.

Donations of fresh fruit and vegetables, along with mixed canned goods are requested. Additional storage space allows the nonprofit to ask for donations of senior necessities, including paper goods and basic hygiene products.

Items can be dropped off by calling Jan at 329-7897.

Kupuna singles to meet Thursday

Kona Kupuna Singles Club members will meet for dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Rosa’s Cantina in Kailua-Kona. Call 322-9098 for reservations.
