College open house today in Kona
A free Hawaii Community College “Rural Hawaii” open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at West Hawaii Civic Center Building A.
Staff will be available to explain how to earn college credits and certificates in sustainable construction or lot design, virtual office assistant, business essentials, retail essentials, entrepreneurship, and business foundations.
Staff will help attendees complete a college application. There will be demonstrations of an online classroom and information on noncredit training in process technology and industrial maintenance and a boating safety certification will also be available. Hear about internship opportunities and how your work experience, military service, and professional training could count toward college credit.
All business classes are online, accelerated, and can be taken anywhere.

Meet North Hawaii candidates Saturday
Waimea Town Market and Parker School will host a candidate talk story from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday at the school.
With no speeches and no pressure, voters will have the opportunity to spend time chatting with each North Hawaii candidate, one-on-one in the relaxed environment of the farmers market.
Candidates for all local offices have indicated they will attend. Those confirmed include District 4 State Senate incumbent Malama Solomon and candidate Lorraine Inouye and District 9 County Council incumbent Margaret Wille and candidates Ron Gonzales and Sonny Shimaoka.

Seniors plan movie day on Wednesday
Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Civic Center, Building A to watch a free movie. The group will not meet at Hale Halawai this week.

Agriculture producers must file conservation certification
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is reminding producers that changes mandated through the 2014 Farm Bill require them to have on file a Highly Erodible Land Conservation and Wetland Conservation Certification (AD-1026). The Farm Bill relinked highly erodible land conservation and wetland conservation compliance with eligibility for premium support paid under the federal crop insurance program.
If producers have not filed, they must do so by June 1, 2015.
A recently revised form is available online at fsa.usda.gov. Producers can also contact their local USDA service center for information.
