The Blue Sea Artisans featured artist for the month of August is watercolor artist Felicia Fry.

Fry graduated more than 50 years ago with honors from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Canada. She attended San Miguel de Allende in Mexico to further her art training. Fry has had a long art career in advertising and graphic design in Toronto and Vancouver, and in Los Angeles and San Diego. While working in advertising for many years in Los Angeles, she attended the Los Angeles Art Center. During her last few years in San Diego, she studied under Robert Perine, a well-known watercolorist and author.

Fry moved to Kona in 1984 and has been part of the core group of artists doing art shows all around the island and co-founded the Kailua Village Artists Inc. in 1987. She was an active member of Kailua Village Artists for more than 26 years and joined the Blue Sea Artisans Gallery a couple of months ago. Over the past three years Fry has been a member of the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters, and enjoys the challenge of painting outdoors at our many scenic areas, she said.

The Blue Sea Artisans will host a featured artist’s reception for Fry from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 9 at their gallery at the Kona International Market.

For more information, call the gallery at 329-8000. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
