County raises are out of line

The county officials received their pay raises on July 1 and isn’t it interesting that councilwoman Valerie Poindexter considers her 8.3 percent pay hike to $52,0008 a cost of living adjustment (West Hawaii Today June 11) while we retirees on Social Security received a whopping 1.5 percent COLA?

And, isn’t it interesting that council Chairman J Yoshimoto is receiving an 11.5 percent pay hike to $58,008 because he claims it’s a full-time job even though he attends council meetings every other week (West Hawaii Today July 11)?

I wish I could find a part-time job like that — I would report to work a couple of times a month at that pay rate.

I am outraged with this waste of county funds for these so-called “public servants” when the rest of us are struggling to make ends meet.

When these people are running for office they all know what the problems are and the solution. But after they are elected, the attitudes change to “well…”.

I think all the raises are out of line and the Salary Commission members should have their collective heads examined for this injustice to the electorate.
