Hawaii Island police remind motorists that Friday is the first day children return to most public schools.

All public schools will be open Monday, and motorists should expect an increase in traffic — especially in school zones —during morning and afternoon hours, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Sgt. Robert Pauole of the Traffic Services Section suggests adjusting your daily schedule and starting your day earlier to avoid rushing while commuting to work. Also, use caution while driving in school zones and be attentive of children walking to school and crossing in marked crosswalks.
