Shriners meet Wednesday for lunch

All visiting Shriners are invited to join resident Shriners for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays at The Fish Hopper restaurant.

Words and Wine scheduled Tuesday

Authors kumu Keala Ching, Mike Monson and Duncan Dempster will be featured during Kona Stories Book Shop’s Words and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Keauhou Shopping Center.

Ching’s book, “Lighting the Path: Chants and Songs to Perpetuate the Hawaiian Culture” is a collection of 30 oli, or chants. Monson will discuss “The Scent of New Death,” a novella about a bank robber. Dempster will read from “Chapel on the Moor,” a book that is steeped in mystery bordering on fantasy, with a story that can be as real or as fanciful as the reader chooses to imagine.

Free video production class offered in Kona

Na Leo O Hawaii Inc. is the nonprofit corporation established to manage the public, education and government cable access channels in Hawaii County and to promote the creation of TV programs by and for the people of Hawaii Island.

The next scheduled free video production orientation is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Na Leo O Hawaii facilities in the Kaiwi Square at 74-5565 Luhia St., C1-A, in Kailua-Kona. Call 329-9617 for reservations and more information.

New times for bridge games begin today

The Kona Bridge Club announces its new duplicate bridge game times beginning Friday. Monday and Friday games will now start at 9 a.m. Wednesday’s game will start at 1 p.m.

The club meets at The Bridge Building on the campus of Makua Lani Christian Academy, which was formerly Hualalai Academy, at 74-4966 Kealakaa St. in Kailua-Kona.

Masons dinner meeting Wednesday

Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons meets Wednesday at the Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St. No. 7 in Kailua-Kona. Dinner is served at 6 p.m., followed by a meeting at 7 p.m. then dessert.
