Mercedes Salmasan

Mercedes “Judy” Salmasan, 86, of Kealakekua died July 25, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 28, 1927, in Ka‘u, she was a retired coffee farmer, a waitress at Naniloa Hotel, Teshima’s Restaurant and Sandy’s Drive-In and a laundry attendant for Jupiter Laundry.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Aug. 9 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kealakekua for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will be at Kona Memorial Park followed by a luncheon at Kona Imin Center in Holualoa. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

She is survived by son, William Bullanday of Texas; daughters, Judith Min and Erica Deleon, both of Kailua-Kona, Desiree (Dale) Shiraki of Kealakekua; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Zane Northam

Zane Udell Northam, 86, of Papaikou died July 6, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born March 17, 1928, he was a radar technician in the Army-Air Force, a federal government employee at Hill Air Force Base and member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees chapter 2166, Hawaii Island Shrine Club in Hilo, Aloha Temple in Honolulu and American Legion Post 139 in Utah.

A committal service will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Aloha Northam of Papaikou; daughters, Zana Anderson of Layton, Utah, Valerie Kitchen of Salt Lake City; brother, Elmer (Mary Jane) Northam of Texas; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Albert Perry Sr.

Albert Torres Perry Sr., 80, of Hilo died July 17, 2014, at his residence. Born in Kapaau, he was a retired superintendent at Oahu Country Club in Nuuanu.

No services are planned.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Perry of Hilo; sons, Albert Perry Jr. and Jonathan (Shantel) Perry, all of Honolulu; daughters, Corinne Perry Clement and LeighAnn (Peter) Perry Pruski, both of Honolulu; stepdaughter, Iwalani (Chris) Grim of California; stepsons, Ramsey Tumacder of Oklahoma, Robin Tumacder of Maui; brothers, Andrew (Dale) Perry of Arizona, Daniel (Carmen) Perry of Ocean View, Louie (Bertha) Perry and Richard Perry, both of Washington; sister, Julia (Jerry) Badua of Hilo; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Lariosa

Mary Ann Lariosa, 79, of Pahoa died July 20, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Omaha, Neb., she was a retired chef.

Private services were held.

She is survived by husband, Marcello Lariosa Sr. of Pahoa, daughter, Machelle Lariosa of Las Vegas; son, Marcello Lariosa Jr. of Oakland, Calif.; sister, Kay Gish of Missouri; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Hirae

Richard Makio Hirae, 83, of Hilo died July 1, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Mountain View, he was a retired painting contractor and owner of the former Hirae Painting Services, a Korean War Marine Corps veteran and member of New Hope East Hawaii.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Corliss Hirae of Hilo; sons, Jason Hirae and Kendall Hirae, both of Hilo, Rory Hirae of Keaau; daughters, Carolee (David) Okano of Hilo, Lorna (John Reese) Hirae-Reese of San Diego; brother, Royden (Sharon) Hirae of Honolulu; sisters, Aileen (Maurice) Iha and Katy (George) Shon, both of Kailua, Oahu; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Teiji Sakanoi

Teiji Sakanoi, 80, of Hilo died July 10, 2014, at his residence in Hilo. Born March 16, 1934, in Olaa, he was a retired lead foreman pipe fitter for Hawaii County Department of Water Supply and member of the Higashi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Jane Sakanoi of Hilo; sons, Russell Sakanoi and Aaron (Melba) Sakanoi, both of Hilo; daughters, Jessie (Graham) Bromley of Dublin, Calif., Joyce (Byron) Candaroma of Hilo; brothers, Tadao (Sharlene) Sakanoi of Honolulu, Paul (Lani) Sakanoi of Los Angeles; sisters, Michie (Harold) Hasegawa of Honolulu, Tsukiyo Liu and Yaeko Vega, both of Los Angeles; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Paul O’Brien died Aug. 9, 2013. An earlier obituary included an incorrect death date.

Elmer LeBay

Elmer LeBay, 92, of Milolii died July 19, 2014, at his residence. Born Dec. 17, 1921, in Tiffin, Ohio, he was a retired professor at Kapiolani Community College in Honolulu and an Army veteran.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by sister, Helen Orend of Lake Villa, Ill.; hanai son, Stephen (Yuko) Green of Waikoloa.
