Bridge club offers lessons

The Tuesday Trumpers, a seniors social rubber bridge club, meets from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays at Kona United Methodist Church on Palani Road. The cost for each session is $4. Soft drinks and pupu are available. Bidding boxes are used to help the hearing impaired.

The group also offers lessons this month for those wishing to learn to play bridge.

Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women meets at 9 a.m. Friday at Waimea Center, 65-1158 Mamalahoa Highway, Suite 2C.

Vegetarian Society meets Monday

Kona Vegetarian Society meets Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Pottery Terrace Suite 323. Doc Martin, a Hippocrates Health Institute educated physician, will discuss how to live cancer-free. The meeting is open to vegetarians and nonvegetarians.

Kona Stories August book clubs planned

The Kona Stories fiction book club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss “A Constellation of Vital Phenomena” by Anthony Marra. The nonfiction book club will gather at 6 p.m. Aug. 26 to review “Lawrence in Arabia” by Scott Anderson.

The fiction book club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, and the nonfiction group meets at 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday at Kona Stories in Keauhou Shopping Center. No membership or fees are associated with these groups and monthly attendance is not required. Bring a pupu or beverage to share.
