Bubble soccer league in Waimea

Aug. 26 to Sept. 2

Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Waimea Athletics, is registering participants for an indoor bubble ball soccer league at Thelma Parker Gym.

Games will be played Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 6:30 p.m. Teams are limited to six players, ages 12 to adults, with eight teams in the league. Email parksandrecwaimea@gmail.com to sign up.

Waimea Biddy Basketball clinics

Registration Aug. 11-13; Season from Sept. 15 to Oct. 22

Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Waimea Athletics, will host a Biddy Basketball season.

Registrations will be taken during clinic days at Thelma Parker Gym, starting at 3 p.m. Clinics will begin at 3:30 p.m. for ages 5-6; 4:30 ages 7-8.

The league will run from Sept. 15 to Oct. 22, Mondays and Wednesdays beginning at 4:30 p.m. at various gyms.

Fees are $10 and payable to Waimea Athletics.

Waimea instructional tennis classes

Thursdays, Aug. 14 to Sept. 18

Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Waimea Athletics, is holding sign-ups for instructional tennis at Waimea Park’s outdoor tennis courts.

The clinics are free and instructed by tennis pro Jeff Lewis, director of Rutger Tennis Center at Hawaii Preparatory Academy.

Clinics will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Participation is limited to the first 12 students in two age divisions: 6-9 and 10-and-older.

HPA Tennis Camp

Aug. 12-14, 9 a.m. to noon

The HPA tennis camp, open to ages 6-17 of all skill levels, will be hosted by HPA tennis coach Jeff Lewis.

Register at least six days prior to camp to assure a spot and consistency in the program.

Kona Biddy Basketball leagues

Sept. 8 to Oct. 20

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering Biddy Basketball leagues for ages 5-8 at Kekuaokalani Gym in Kailua-Kona.

The league is scheduled Sept. 8 to Oct. 20, with play at 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Register by Aug. 14.

Registration forms are available 12:30-2:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the gym office.

Volunteer coaches and officials are needed.

The Brown Bear Bash and Sunny Sprint

Aug. 17

Frozen Pea Productions will host the Brown Bear Bash and Sunny Sprint Aug. 17.

The bash course will be a 1⁄3-mile swim and 3.1-mile run/walk and the sprint will cover 200 yards in the water and a 1-mile run/walk.

Kids Bowl Free at KBXtreme

Weekdays

KBXtreme in Kailua-Kona is partnering with Kids Bowl Free, a national summer bowling program for children younger than 15, to allow two free games on weekdays.

This year, KBXtreme is nominating Big Island elementary and intermediate schools for the Bowling for Schools $50,000 grant program. The program runs to Aug. 31.

Bieni Kohler Johnson 5K fun run and dog walk

Sept. 28

HPA will host the fourth annual Bieni Kohler Johnson 5K Fun Run at 9 a.m. Sept. 28.

The event was established in 2009 in memory of Kohler, who lost her battle with breast cancer. All net proceeds from this event and all donations go toward three $1,000 scholarships established in her name to support female student athletes attending Hawaii Preparatory Academy, where Kohler attended middle and high school.

There is a one dog limit per participant and leashes must be attached at all times.

Water will be provided along the course as well as for the dogs at the finish line.
