Women’s Veteran Day Celebration postponed
Because inclement weather is expected, the Fourth annual Women’s Veteran Day Celebration has been postponed. The event is now scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 16 at Pohakuloa Training Area.
A reservation is required to gain access to PTA, which can be done through the Veterans Centers of Hawaii.
Summer Cruise car and bike show slated
The first Summer Cruise event will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at Lanihau Center’s southern parking lot across from Buns in the Sun.
The area has room for nearly 100 cars, bikes and trucks. Classic, custom and performance vehicles from around the island are invited to join in the free social event. There are no classes, trophies or entry fees, but participants are asked to bring donations for the school supply drive.
The Hawaii Racing Association will be on hand with displays and information about the Kona Motorsport Park project. The nonprofit has been working toward creating a park north of Kona International Airport for nearly 20 years and is collecting funding for a $20,000 sound survey.

Free luau held in Ocean View
The second Ocean View Hoolaulea Luau will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Ocean View Evangelical Community Church, 92-8977 Leilani Circle.
The event will include free Hawaiian food, entertainment by various worship teams, children’s activities and a prayer booth. Admission and all activities are free.

Meditation group meets Tuesday
The Kona Interfaith Meditation Society will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden, 75-1048 Henry St. The meeting will feature a 15-minute video interview with Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, a period of sitting in silence, discussion and refreshments.

Free class offered for caregivers
A free six-week Powerful Tools for Caregivers series designed to help family caregivers will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Life Care Center of Kona, 78-6957 Kamehameha III Road.
The two-hour class will be held each consecutive Saturday until Sept. 27. Through funding obtained from Hawaii Alliance for Community Health, participants will receive a free copy of “The Caregiver Helpbook,” developed specifically for the class.

Puukohola Heiau holds cultural festival
Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site will celebrate its 42nd anniversary with the park’s annual cultural festival Aug. 16 and 17.
This free event will open with Na Papa Kanaka o Puukohola Heiau performing hookupu and hookuikahi ceremonies from 6 to 9:30 a.m. with festivities continuing until 3 p.m. On Aug. 17, the festivities will commence at 9:30 a.m. and continue through 3 p.m.
More than 20 arts and craft workshops and demonstrations will be available for visitors to experience. This event will take place at Pelekane (Royal Courtyard) near the beach below the heiau. Parking will be on the coral flats, south of the Kawaihae Harbor.
