Jean Yamanaka

Jean Narikiyo Yamanaka, 79, of Hilo died Aug. 2, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center.

Born in Captain Cook, she was a retired elementary school teacher, member of Kula Wahine Golf Club, Palaka Golf Club, Lehua Women’s Golf Club, AJA Women’s Golf Club, and Alpha Delta Kappa.

Friends may call at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Harry Yamanaka of Hilo; daughters, Lois-Ann (John) Yamanaka Inferrera of Kalihi Valley, Oahu, Mona (Shane) Saiki, Kathy (Jeffrey) Tatsuhara, both of Keaau, Carla (Donald Oates) Yamanaka of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; mother, Yoshiko Narikiyo of Hilo; brothers, Katsuji Narikiyo of Los Angeles, Yoshito (Valerie) Narikiyo of Honolulu, Steven (Gwenne) Narikiyo of Hilo; sisters, Janet (Jim) Linardos of Seattle, Coleen Narikiyo of Molokai; three grandchildren.

Joseph De Costa Jr.

Joseph “Joe” Lawrence De Costa Jr., 85, of Mountain View died July 28, 2014, at his residence. Born in Pahala, he retired as a heavy equipment operator for Yamada &Sons Company, Hamakua Sugar Company, Willocks Construction Company and as owner of Joe’s Bulldozing Service.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Aug. 15 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home for an 11 a.m. service.

He is survived by sons, Gordon (Pat) De Costa of Mountain View, Leroy De Costa of Waimea; daughters, Debbie (Walter) Wong Yuen of Pahala, Charna (Aaron) Ontiveros of Las Vegas; brother, Raymond De Costa of Washington; sisters, Lorraine (Walter) Gonsalves of Honolulu, Frances (Hank) Kirkland of California; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins.

Juan Lampitoc

Juan Lampitoc, 97, of Honokaa died July 31, 2014, at the Hale Hoola Hamakua Hospital. Born June 16, 1917, in the Philippines, he retired as a farmer for Trans Pacific Nursery.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Aug. 16 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Chruch, 45-5028 Plumeria St. in Honokaa, for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by daughter, Rosebella (Pepito) Tabucbuc of Waimea; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cisto Hondonero

Services for Cisto Hondonero have been rescheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 16 at Naalehu Assembly of God Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Naalehu Community Cemetery. Condolences may be posted at woolseymortuary.com.

Edward Shindo

Edward Katsumi Shindo, 83, of Hilo died July 27, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired production manager for the former Hilo Soda Works, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and former scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 19.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Aug. 16 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Satomi Shindo; son, Brian (Kerima) Shindo Sr., both of Hilo; daughter, Teri (Shane) Agno of Honolulu; brothers, Thomas (Geri) Shindo of Hilo, Wallace (Betty) Shindo of Los Angeles; sisters, Shizue Nakamura of Hilo, Harumi Kawamoto of Waimea; three granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Samuel Kawamura

Samuel “Sam” Seichi Kawamura, 76, of Hilo died July 27, 2014, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Hilo, he retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Highways Division as a drafting technician. He was a member of Waiakea Lions Club, Anela Street Kumiai, Hawaii Ballroom Dance Club, and a former member of the Big Island Ballroom Dance Club – Hilo Chapter. He was a former council member of Hawaii Island Retirees Senior Volunteer Program, a veteran of the Vietnam War, and a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Hawaii Army National Guard and he belonged to the Big Island Retirees National Guard Association.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 16 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Emileen Kawamura of Hilo; daughters, Lynn Kinoshita of Hilo, Lorna (David) Tsuchiya of Kekaha, Kauai; brothers, Melvyn (Elaine) Kawamura of Matthews, N.C., Edward (Atsuko) Kawamura of Honolulu, David (Judith) Kawamura of Mililani, Oahu; sisters, Alice (Wendell) Oliver of Louisiana, Mo., Naomi Tsutsui of Hilo, Patricia Ann Kawamura of Honolulu; hanai brother, Gerald (Amy) Greer of Kaneohe, Oahu; three grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Reina Garcia

Reina Rico Garcia, 101, of Waimea died July 29, 2014, at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Sonora, Mexico, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 15 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea. A eulogy will be held at 10:45 a.m. and a sevice will begin at 11. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Lettie (Bob) McGillivray of Waimea, Georgia (Ray) Rodriguez of Tucson, Ariz., Aida (Steve Denight) Garcia of Ocean View; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack Moore

Jack Fredrick Moore, 85, of Volcano died Aug. 2, 2014, at Pohai Malama. Born April 3, 1929, in Seattle, he was a massage therapist and a Staff Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by wife, Grace Moore of Volcano; son, David (Jennifer) Moore of Atlanta; daughter, Cathy Boyle of Los Angeles; brother, Richard (Susan) Moore of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Marva Bennet

Marva Joy Bennett, 89, of Hilo died Aug. 7, 2014, at home. Born in Ferron, Utah, she was a homemaker and a member of the Imperial Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Services will be held at a later date in Salt Lake City.

She is survived by sons, Charles Everett (Rhonda) Bennett Jr. of Longs, S.C., Mark Zwahlen (Kelly) Bennett of Sandy, Utah, Gary Lambert (Sandra) Bennett of Salt Lake City, Vern Leroy (Billie Jo) Bennett of American Fork, Utah, James Hyrum (Frank) Bennett of Salt Lake City, and David Lewis (Kristi Kea) Bennett of Hilo; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
