Police Chief Harry S. Kubojiri and HOPE Services Hawaii Chief Executive Officer Brandee Menino were presented with 50 new backpacks Aug. 6 at KapohoKine Adventures in Hilo.

The backpacks will be distributed to children at shelters and transitional housing facilities islandwide.

The backpacks were presented by Gary Marrow, co-owner of KapohoKine Adventures, and were purchased in partnership with Patagonia.

Backpacks have been identified as the most requested nonfood items by Hawaii charities.

Those wishing to donate backpacks to the effort may do so through Aug. 30 at all police stations islandwide.
