DENVER — Michael Cuddyer hit for the cycle, including a two-run double in Colorado’s five-run eighth inning, and the Rockies beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 on Sunday night to complete a doubleheader sweep.
Colorado won the opener 10-9 when Drew Stubbs capped a five-run ninth inning with a three-run homer off J.J. Hoover (1-9).
Cuddyer tripled in the first, homered in the fifth and singled in the seventh while becoming the seventh Rockies player to hit for the cycle and first since Carlos Gonzalez on July 31, 2010, against the Chicago Cubs.
Cuddyer’s second career cycle came in his second game back after he was sidelined by a left shoulder injury.
Adam Ottavino (1-4) picked up the win in relief and Carlos Contreras (0-1) took the loss.
Rex Brothers (4-5) picked up the victory in the opener despite allowing a pair of runs in the top of the ninth.
BREWERS 7, DODGERS 2
LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Lucroy tied a season high with five RBIs, including his first home run in more than three weeks, and the Brewers completed a three-game sweep.
Wily Peralta (15-7) tied Johnny Cueto and Adam Wainwright for the major league lead in victories, allowing five hits in six scoreless innings.
Carlos Gomez hit his 20th homer, helping the Brewers maintain their three-game lead over St. Louis in the NL Central. They also became the first team to sweep the NL West-leading Dodgers in a series of three or more games this season.
BRAVES 4, ATHLETICS 3
ATLANTA — Justin Upton hit a two-run homer, and the Braves ended Jon Lester’s seven-game winning streak.
The Braves swept the three-game series, leaving the A’s with a five-game losing streak, their longest of the season. The A’s have lost seven of eight overall and trail the Angels, who lost to Texas on Sunday, by percentage points in the AL West.
Oakland’s Nate Freiman hit two homers, giving him three in the series, but Mike Minor (5-8) allowed only two other hits in seven strong innings.
Lester (13-8) allowed four runs, three earned, and six hits in six-plus innings in his first loss since June 7 for the Red Sox at Detroit.
YANKEES 4, RAYS 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Hiroki Kuroda pitched neatly into the seventh inning and Brett Gardner drove in two runs to lead the Yankees to the road win.
Kuroda (8-8) retired 17 straight batters after allowing consecutive one-out singles to Ben Zobrist and Matt Joyce in the first. He gave up two runs and four hits in 6 2/3 innings.
After Shawn Kelley and Dellin Betances combined for 1 1/3 scoreless innings, David Robertson closed for his 33rd save.
Tampa Bay’s Jeremy Hellickson (1-2) gave up three runs and four hits in five innings. Evan Longoria had two RBIs for the Rays.
Mark Teixeira reached 20 homers for the 11th time in his career with a solo shot in the Yankees eighth.
ROYALS 12, TWINS 6
MINNEAPOLIS — Alex Gordon, Salvador Perez and Josh Willingham homered, and the Royals won for the 20th time in their last 25 games.
Kansas City sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven times in the second, keyed by two-run singles for Alcides Escobar and Nori Aoki. The Royals also increased their AL Central lead to 1 1/2 games over Detroit, which lost 8-1 to Seattle.
Kansas City’s Jeremy Guthrie (9-10) returned to the mound after a 54-minute rain delay in the fourth and lasted seven innings.
Joe Mauer, Kennys Vargas and Oswaldo Arcia homered for Minnesota. Tommy Milone (6-4) allowed seven runs in a career-low 1 1/3 innings.
NATIONALS 6, PIRATES 5, 11 INNINGS
WASHINGTON — Pinch-hitter Scott Hairston drove in Jayson Werth with a game-ending sacrifice fly, sending Washington to a three-game sweep.
Werth, who had missed the last five games with a bothersome shoulder, entered as a pinch hitter in the ninth and doubled leading off the 11th against Brandon Cumpton (3-4).
Werth went to third on Denard Span’s grounder to first. Hairston then sent Cumpton’s first pitch to deep left and Werth scored easily.
Ross Detwiler (2-2) pitched two innings for the win.
ORIOLES 4, INDIANS 1
CLEVELAND — Rookie Kevin Gausman pitched six strong innings and Baltimore salvaged the series finale, beating Cleveland to avoid being swept for the first time since May.
Gausman (7-4) allowed just one run and two hits. Zach Britton finished the combined two-hitter for his 26th save.
The AL East leaders totaled just one run in their previous two games. J.J. Hardy hit a two-out RBI single and slumping Chris Davis had an RBI double in the sixth after Baltimore was blanked over the first five by Danny Salazar (4-6).
MARINERS 8, TIGERS 1
DETROIT — Chris Young pitched six shutout innings and Seattle won the weekend series, moving back ahead of Detroit in the race for the second AL wild-card spot.
Seattle’s Lloyd McClendon, managing his first series in Detroit after serving as Jim Leyland’s hitting coach, was ejected for the second straight game. McClendon was tossed for arguing after Detroit’s Alex Avila drew a seventh-inning walk.
Young (12-6) allowed four hits and a walk. Tigers rookie Robbie Ray (1-3) struggled while replacing injured Anibal Sanchez.
GIANTS 5, PHILLIES 2
SAN FRANCISCO — Michael Morse got three hits and scored twice as San Francisco won consecutive home games for the first time in over two months.
Andrew Susac had two hits and drove in the go-ahead run for the Giants. Brandon Crawford drove in a pair of runs.
Chase Utley and Cody Asche drove in runs for the Phillies, who have lost seven of their last nine.
Tim Lincecum (10-8) managed to work through five innings to end a personal three-game losing streak. He gave up two runs and seven hits.
Santiago Casilla earned his 10th save in 13 chances.
Philadelphia’s David Buchanan (6-7) allowed two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
CARDINALS 7, PADRES 6
ST. LOUIS — Matt Carpenter homered, doubled and drove in three runs for St. Louis, and Adam Wainwright moved into a tie for the major league lead with his 15th win.
Jon Jay’s two-run single highlighted a four-run first inning when the Cardinals batted around against rookie Odrisamer Despaigne (3-4). Peter Bourjos and Tony Cruz each had an RBI single for St. Louis, which took three of four in the series.
Wainwright (15-7) allowed three earned runs in seven innings. Seth Maness got two outs for his second save.
RANGERS 3, ANGELS 2
ARLINGTON, Texas — Adam Rosales and Mike Carp hit RBI singles in the ninth inning off Angels closer Huston Street, rallying Texas.
Texas had lost four in a row overall, and nine straight to the Angels. Los Angeles had won its last four games.
Street (1-1) had saved the first two games of the three-game series. The blown save was his second in 35 opportunities with the Angels and Padres.
Street had not given up a run since being acquired from San Diego on July 18 until Carp’s tying single.
WHITE SOX 7, BLUE JAYS 5
CHICAGO — Conor Gillaspie hit his first grand slam and Jordan Danks added a two-run shot to cap a six-run first inning, and the Chicago White Sox held off Toronto.
