HONOLULU — U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard says federal officials have wrapped up their assessment of damage on the Big Island from Tropical Storm Iselle and are close to submitting their report to Gov. Neil Abercrombie.

Gabbard says Abercrombie will use the report to request federal aid for people whose homes have been damaged by the storm that hit this month.

Gabbard says she’s hoping the process can be expedited so people in the Puna district south of Hilo can get immediate help.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has been visiting homes to assess the cost of damages.
