A high surf advisory is in effect for the Big Island’s south-facing shores through 6 p.m. Friday.
National Weather Service forecasters are calling for 6- to 9-foot waves on Thursday and 5- to 8-foot waves on Friday along the Kona, Kohala and Ka’u coastlines.
The service categorized the surf’s impact as “moderate.” The public is advised to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that make swimming difficult and dangerous.
Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
