Kona Heat have solid showing at Donosti Cup

The Kona Heat U-14 boys traveled to San Sebastian, Spain, this summer for the Donosti Cup.

There were 48 teams in the U-14 Division which was comprised of 12 groups of four teams. The Heat went 2-1 in group play and qualified for the Round of 16. The Kona squad was knocked out of the tournament in that round by Trival Valderas, a team from Madrid, 4-0.

Heat coach Joe Pries called it a trip of a lifetime.

“Despite our two losses, I will say that our team rose to a level that we had not been at previously,” said Pries. “To advance to the Round of 16 over 32 other teams from many different countries was quite a feat and I am very proud of our players.

“This was a massive effort that was over two years in the making.”

The team is made up of Jake Schneider, Laukoa Santos, Dylan Teves, Zen Simone, Riley Pries, Marius Adoin, Mateo Batol, Finn Simmersbach, Akari Shimizu, Kento Komatsu, Kama Kahoe-Morrison and Brendan Moynahan.
