Waimea Community Theatre and Chorus is enlarging its pool of volunteer directors for musicals and plays to be presented in North Hawaii.
In June the performing arts company concluded its 50th anniversary year of producing shows on the Hawaii Island, treating its audiences to reprises of some of the most successful plays presented during its first 50 years, including “The Music Man,” “Dark of the Moon,” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. The group also operates a 60-voice performing choral assembly.
Newly elected as president of the organization, Daniel Bal noted that as Waimea has grown, its become a cultural hotspot on the island.
“The influx of new residents as well as retirees has brought an incredible new talent pool to this area,” he said. “We’re hoping many of the newcomers would to share their theatre experience or interest with our North Hawaii audiences.”
Waimea Community Theatre is offering opportunities for directors new to the group to helm some of its upcoming plays and musicals. Potential directors may volunteer to direct an already-planned show, or suggest a drama, comedy, or music. While experience in directing is desired, those with experience in acting or other aspects of live theatre are welcome.
