Hawaii Fire Department officials are investigating the cause of a Thursday evening fire at a home on Forest Drive in Pahoa.

Responding to the 5:41 p.m. alarm, paid county and volunteer firefighters arrived at 13-3519 Forest Drive to find the carport of a three-bedroom, single-story home in flames, officials said. Fifteen firefighters contained the fire to the carport and were able to extinguish it within 30 minutes.

The department estimated damage to the structure at $50,000.
