HONOLULU — A man who escaped from custody while awaiting trial for killing his friend in a windward Oahu state park has been found not guilty of murder.
A jury found Teddy Munet not guilty of second-degree murder Thursday in the 2012 shooting death of William Fallau.
Last year, Munet was in handcuffs and a belly chain when he bolted from a loading dock at the Honolulu Circuit Court building, where he was scheduled for a pretrial hearing. Police arrested him 12 hours later. His escape prompted lockdowns in the area and later led to the state Department of Public Safety making changes to the way officers are trained.
A judge sentenced him to 30 years in prison for the escape.
