Scott, Tringale tied for the lead at Barclays

PARAMUS, N.J. — Now that the majors are over, Adam Scott is going after the one big prize remaining this year — a shot at the $10 million FedEx Cup prize.

Scott ran off four straight birdies in the middle of his round and finished with a tap-in birdie Friday for a 6-under 65 to share the 36-hole lead with Cameron Tringale at The Barclays.

Scott is the defending champion at the first FedEx Cup playoff event. He won last year at Liberty National.

British Open and PGA champion Rory McIlroy was nine shots better than his opening round, playing bogey-free for a 65. Not only did he make the cut, McIlroy suddenly is only five shots behind going into the weekend.

Phil Mickelson played a shot from the deck of a grandstand in a wild day that ended with a birdie to make the cut on the number.

Ryu shoots bogey-free 66 at Canadian LPGA

LONDON, Ontario — So Yeon Ryu of South Korea shot a 6-under 66 Friday in another bogey-free round to take an early five-stroke lead at the Canadian Women’s Open.

American Christie Kerr had a 68 and Anna Nordqvist of Sweden shot a 69 at London Hunt and Country Club. Kerr won the tournament the last time it was held here in 2006.

Brittany Lincicome, who was a runner-up to Inbee Park at the LPGA Championship last week, had the best round of the day with a 65 and trails Ryu by seven shots.

Ryu set a course record with a 63 on Thursday.

Goodes leads Boeing by 1 stroke

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. — Mike Goodes shot an 8-under 64 on Friday for a one-stroke lead in the Boeing Classic.

Goodes, 57, got off to a fast start with an eagle on the first hole, knocking it in from a bunker. He then had six birdies in the first round of the Champions Tour stop on the TPC Snoqualmie Ridge course.

Mark Brooks was all alone in second after a 65. The 1996 PGA champion shot a 6-under 30 on the back nine, one short of the course and tournament record of 29 set by Scott Simpson in 2006.

Mark O’Meara, Gene Sauers, Scott Hoch, Mark McNulty and Jeff Sluman are at 6 under.
