Kovatch to address Rotary Club
Stephanie Kovatch, secretary and snorkel day coordinator of Deep &Beyond, will speak at the Kona Sunrise Rotary meeting Wednesday.
Deep &Beyond is a nonprofit that helps disabled and disadvantaged people engage in adventure and experience the island.
The Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise meets from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. every Wednesday at Humpy’s in Coconut Grove Marketplace on Alii Drive. Breakfast is $11 per person. Rotarians and people of good character are welcome.

Hawaii Food &Wine Festival plans Hawaii Island event
The fourth annual Hawaii Food &Wine Festival will hold an event on Friday on Hawaii Island in partnership with Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Hilton Waikoloa Village.
Co-founded by chefs Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, the festival features wine tasting, cooking demonstrations and exclusive dining opportunities featuring local produce.

Lyman Museum hosts Kalaupapa exhibit
“A Source of Light, Constant and Never-Fading,” presented by Ka Ohana O Kalaupapa, will open Friday at Lyman Museum. The exhibit focuses on the relationship between the people of Kalaupapa and the royal family of Hawaii, a chapter of history often overlooked.
Recently presented with a Preservation Media Award by the Historic Hawaii Foundation, the exhibit features historical and contemporary photographs along with the words of the people in English and Hawaiian.
Also, the presentation “The Restoration of Family Ties,” will be given by Valerie Monson of Ka Ohana O Kalaupapa from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the museum classroom. Monson will discuss her organization’s work in reconnecting families to their Kalaupapa ancestors.

Fishing tournament supports veterans
Proceeds from an upcoming fishing tournament will benefit two Kona veteran organizations.
Registration with food, beer and a silent auction will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club at Honokohau Harbor. Fishing start time is 7 a.m. Saturday.
Entry fee is $300 for each boat/team of four anglers and two crew. A portion of the registration and optional entry fees plus all of the silent auction proceeds will be split between the Kona Posts of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. A 6 p.m. Saturday banquet will include food, awards and the Junior ROTC color guard honoring veterans.

Mind body medicine class helps attendees reduce stress
An introduction to the fundamentals of mind body medicine will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Tutu’s House in Waimea.
Understanding how the stress response affects long-term health, and how to better manage stress is the goal.When practiced daily, mind body medicine can rewire the brain for more enjoyment, satisfaction and contentment.

Aloha Performing Arts Company plans annual meeting
Aloha Performing Arts Co. will hold its annual meeting, which is open to the public, at 3 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. One new board member will be appointed, and officers for the coming year will be elected. A summary of the past season and a look forward to the coming season will be featured.
Immediately following the meeting, APAC will honor its volunteers with the Fony Award Celebration. APAC is a tax-exempt, nonprofit arts organization managed by a small staff and a volunteer board of directors. For more information, call 322-9924.
