Josephine Guerpo

Josephine Ramil Guerpo, 72, of Honokaa died Aug. 17, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 19, 1942, in Amacalan, Gerona, Tarlac, Philippines, she was a community service program assistant for the Park & Recreation Elderly Activities Division, County of Hawaii and a member of Honokaa Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Aug. 31 at Honokaa Seventh-day Adventist Church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Honokaa Seventh-day Adventist Church Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, John Ramil Guerpo, Ken Ramil Guerpo, both of Honokaa; brothers, Augusto (Violy) Ramil of Lonalinda, Calif., Aurino (Lina) Ramil of Honokaa, Domingo (Mercy) Ramil of Seattle; sisters, Sabina (Ben) Palermo, Mimi (Rowell) Villarin, both of Waimea, Anita (Frank) Soares of Kapaa, Kauai; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alden Ah Puck

Alden Lee Ah Puck, 51, of Paauilo died Aug. 19, 2014. Born in Hilo, he was a former groundskeeper with Waikoloa Land Co.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Ah Puck residence, 43-983 Namilimili Ln. in Paauilo for an all-night vigil and a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. Aug. 30 at Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. service, followed by burial at Kukuihaele County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by sons, Chad (Mailani) Ah Puck, Austin Ah Puck, Logan Ah Puck, all of Waimea, mother, Caroline Ah Puck of Papaaloa; sister, Lorelei (Harlan) Uehara of Pepeekeo; brothers, Clarence (Edwina) Ah Puck of Waimea, Darcy (Jack) Ah Puck of Battleground, Wash.; five grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charles Sanborn

Charles Moses Kamakawiwoole Sanborn, 54, of Hilo died Aug. 17, 2014. Born July 16, 1960, in Hilo, he was the owner of Moke’s Electric LLC in Hilo, a master scuba diver trainer, a Navy veteran and past member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker Union.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 31 for a service with military honors. The family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Denise; sons, Justin Sanborn, Nicholas Sanborn; daughter, Gabrielle Sanborn; brothers, James (Cynthia) Sanborn; Robert (Elizabeth) Sanborn, Clyde (Buddy) Sanborn, Dwayne Sanborn, all of Hilo; sisters, Annette Lancaster of Hilo, Katherine Sanborn-Flores of Oregon; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frieda Lewi

Frieda Louise “Baby” Lewis, 55, of Puna died Aug. 17, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 16, 1959, in Hilo, she was a paralegal and office clerk for the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii Hilo office and member of the Sure Foundation Church Puna.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 6:30 p.m. service. Friends may again call at 9 a.m. Aug. 30 at the mortuary for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by companion, Gustavus Morante of Puna; daughters, Zhonna (Frank) Nobriga-Soares, Zasha Nobriga, Sheena (Kenneth Simons) Nobriga, Tarcel Lewis, all of Puna; son, Daniel Lewis Jr. of Puna; hanai sons, Hana (Roxanne) Morante of Puna, Travis Morante of Hilo; hanai daughters, Roseanna Morante of Puna, Megan Morante of Hilo; brother, Manuel Nobriga Jr. of Glenwood; sisters, Faye (Michael) Kuheana of Hilo, Yvonne Ferreira, Joanne Nobriga-Ford, Annette Noclain, Rochelle Nobriga, all of Puna; hanai brother, Mark Ramos, of Hilo; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.

Brian John Ettley, 49, of Kealia died Aug. 19, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 27, 1965, in Manhattan, N.Y., he was a glazier and a heavy equipment operator.

John Chiquita Jr.

John Chiquita Jr., 71, of Hilo died Aug. 13, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was the retired owner of Johnny’s Auto Body & Upholstery. He was also a member of the Koa Puna Motorcycle Club.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a service. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

Takashi Shinoda

Takashi “Taka” Shinoda, 87, of Hilo, died Aug. 18, 2014, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Jan. 12, 1927, in Hilo, he was retired from the United States Postal Service, a veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and Wreckers Golf Club.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers. Memorial donations may be made to The Food Basket, 40 Holomua St., Hilo, HI 96720.

He is survived by wife, Leinani Shinoda; daughter, Lei (John Lang) Shinoda; sons, Jason (Luci) Shinoda, all of Hilo, Paul (Denise) Shinoda of Washington; sister, Shiho Nunes of California; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Yoshie Tomita

Yoshie Tomita, 93, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 18, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 29, 1920, in Imperial Valley, Calif., she was a seamstress.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by son, Gene (Stella) Tomita of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Hoshi (Aileen) Tanida, Teruzo (Misako) Tanida, all of California; sister, Katsuko (John) Yamada of California; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kimi Nakamoto

Kimi Nakamoto, 90, of Hilo died Aug. 20, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Feb. 14, 1924, in Honomu, she was a seamstress for Kamehameha Garments and Hilo Hatties. She was a member of the Hilo Taishoji Soto Mission and Hilo Taishoji Soto Mission Fujinkai.
