Art event held in Holualoa
Holualoa Village art galleries and shops will host their a First Friday event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5.
Scheduled to perform is the Saturday Morning Fun Club Band at Koa Realty as well as ukulele music at the Holualoa Ukulele gallery across from the public parking lot.
The Holuakoa Gardens &Cafe will feature its new monthly wine tasting evening and the Holualoa Gallery will have artist Bill Wingert creating a new painting. Most all of the town art galleries will have new works on display and offer casual pupu for friends and visitors.

Meditation gathering planned
Gavin Harrison will lead a sitting and walking meditation gathering from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Waimea Events Salon, 66-1664 Waiaka Street. The nondenominational event is open to experienced and beginning meditators; meditation guidance is offered. Chairs are available; participants may bring their own meditation cushions. Harrison accepts donations to help cover his living expenses. Gatherings are held the first Sunday of the month.

AAA offers free car maintenance clinic
To help motorists catch up on their car maintenance and avoid costly repairs, a free AAA Car Care Clinic will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m Sept. 13 at Lex Brodie’s in Kailua-Kona.
A visual inspection of belts, hoses, fluids, tire pressure and windshield wipers will be conducted. AAA will provide battery tests and a charging system test. Light refreshments will be served.
Participants must register in advance for the free event before 5 p.m. Saturday by calling Lex Brodie’s at 895-4045.
Boating safety class offered
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will host a boating safety class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at 78-7156 Kaleiopapa St. at Keauhou Bay. Cost is $40, which includes lunch and books.
Beginning in November, Hawaii state law will require anyone operating a boat to have completed a boating safety class. This class satisfies the state requirements, offering the same certification as community colleges and other entities providing the class.
