Big Island teen Lia Bicardo has published her first book, “Dog Trek,” with America Star Books.

Lia Bicardo was born in Marin County, Calif. She and her family moved to the Big Island when she was 3 years old.

Bicardo has always been fascinated with animals and has always loved writing and creating stories. She started writing her first book, “Dog Trek,” when she was 12. Her dog, Sasha, a 2-year-old Chihuahua terrier mix, was the inspiration of this book.

“Dog Trek” is about a young dog named Sasha who creates a home for lost dogs in a nearby mansion and hotel. She calls it “Dog Trek.” Her two bests friends, Lily and Blackbird, help her gather other abandoned dogs from the town and give them a home in “Dog Trek.” Together, they battle wolves, rival dogs and more on their journey to a peaceful home.

The book is suggested for youngsters age 9 to 14. “Dog Trek” is available online at Amazon Books, Barnes &Noble and AmericaStarBooks.com.
