Solar presentation held Friday
“Solar PV on the Big Island: Promise and Challenges” will be presented from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tutu’s House in Waimea.
Marco Mangelsdorf, who has 36 years experience designing, installing and teaching solar technology and energy politics, will discuss the technology and incentives that make solar electricity a reasonable supplement to utility power for businesses and residences.

Meditation Society meets
The Kona Interfaith Meditation Society will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden, 75-1048 Henry St.
The program will feature a 15-minute video presentation by Buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield speaking on “The Ancient Heart of Forgiveness.” The program will also include discussion, a period of silence and refreshments.

Unity of Kona observes World Day of Prayer
Unity of Kona will feature a two-day event celebrating the World Day of Prayer. Live streaming of the opening services from Unity Village will be from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Continued live streaming from Unity Village, prayer and meditation will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday.

Arc of Kona president addresses Rotary
Michele Ku, president and CEO of the Arc of Kona will address Rotary Clun of Kona Sunrise Wednesday. Arc of Kona is a nonprofit organization that has supported people with disabilities on Hawaii Island for more than 50 years.
Kona Sunrise Rotary, meets at 6:45 a.m. at Humpy’s Showroom upstairs between Laverne’s and Humpy’s. A breakfast buffet begins at 6:30 a.m. that costs $12.
Officer of the Year luncheon slated
The Kona Crime Prevention Committee’s “Officer of the Year” luncheon will be held at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 12 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
Each month, the committee honors a Hawaii Police Department officer for outstanding performance in the line of duty. Officers of the Month are Justin Gasper, Brandon Mansur, Caroldeen Nalani Freitas, Stephen Kishimoto, Kalae Lee, Nicholas McDaniel, Marlin Hopson, Mario Ochoa, Sheldon Nakamoto, Jerome Duarte and Jason Foxworthy. Each of these officers is eligible to participate in the Officer of the Year selection and will be introduced at this luncheon.

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee continues to encourage and support our police department in its efforts to prevent crime, deter potential criminals and enforce our laws. The Committee also provides police equipment for use by Kona District Officers when Department funds cannot support those needs, as well as raising funds to support Kona DARE, Kona PAL and police education projects. Their monthly luncheons are open to the public and everyone is welcome.
