Harold Ching

Harold Ching, 70, of Keaau died Sept. 2, 2014, at the Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Honolulu, he retired as a correctional officer at Kulani Prison.

Services will be held later.

He is survived by mother, Sarah Ching of Honolulu; brother, Wilfred Ching of Honolulu; sister, Dorri Goodrich of Honolulu.

Gloriann Akau

Gloriann Laurette Keohokulani Akau, 80, of Waimea died Sept. 1, 2014. Born in Wailuku, Maui, she was a retired manager of the Aloha Festival on the Big Island. She was also a member of the Waimea second ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Kaahumanu Society.

Friends may call from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 6 at the Waimea Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a noon service. Cremation will follow. The family requests aloha attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Alexander Akau of Waimea; sons, Benjamin (Corinne) Pokipala Jr. of Honolulu, Tracy (Linda) Pokipala of Waimea, Nathan (Janice) Pokipala of Florida, Derrick (Linda) Akau of Texas; daughters, Laura Lewis of Kapolei, Oahu, Charlene (Derek) Sakaguchi of Kailua, Oahu, Alexandra Akau of Waimea; brother, James Moikeha of Canada; sisters, Charlene (John) Keliiliki of Oahu, Carla Forrest of Tennessee; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Emily Pascual

Emily Pascual, 82, of Kurtistown died Aug. 14, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Mountain View, she was a homemaker, a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship and Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary Post No. 94.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may call again at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Benjamin (Emily) Pascual Sr. of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Donald (Charlene) Pascual of Mountain View, Lincoln (Theresa) Pascual Sr. of Kurtistown, Ford (Leslie) Pascual of Volcano; daughters, Benlynne (Steven) Astel of Glenwood, Donnalynn (Anthony) Casto of Mountain View; hanai son, Anthony Medeiros of Hawaiian Paradise Park; brothers, Seraphine Carvalho of Honolulu, Benjamin Martinez of Clear Lake, Calif., Manuel (Ethel) Martinez of Hawaiian Paradise Park; sisters, Jackie (Carl) McKenzie of Kaneohe, Oahu, Matilda Rivera of Ainaloa; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas Aiona Jr.

Thomas Ah Kong Aiona Jr., 74, of Kohala died Aug. 28, 2014, at home. Born Dec. 6, 1939, in Kohala, he was retired from the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel engineering department and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

No services are planned.

He is survived by wife, Breheda Aiona of Kohala; sons, Martin (Lynette) Ellazar of Kona, Robert (Debbie) Ellazar of Kohala, Shannon (Emely) Aiona of Lihue, Kauai, Jesse Aiona, of Kaneohe, Oahu; brothers, Clifford (Cynthia) Aiona, Donavan (Sam) Aiona of Kohala, Larry (Linda) Aiona, of Kona, Leonard (Pauline) Aiona of Indiana; sisters, Hannah (Gilbert) DeMotta of Hilo, Adeline Cho of Honolulu, Marion (Brian) Kim, Laura (William) Yamamoto, Evalani (Harvey) Caravalho, all of Kohala; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Norman Rouse

Norman Curtis “Curt” Rouse died Aug. 24, 2014, in Hilo. Born Feb. 1, 1960, in Ft. Madison, Iowa, he worked in automotive service and tax preparation.

Curt is survived by mother, Kay (Dwaine) Francis; father, Norman (Jan) Rouse; sisters, Julie Bergbreiter and Karen (Rick) Novak Swalwell; one niece, one nephew, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
