Ignited by quarterbacks Cy Tamura and Jordan DeRamos, Ka’u has the makings of a powerhouse offense primed to give Big Island Interscholastic Federation teams fits this season. But the Trojans ran into a state pioneer Friday night.
Seabury Hall overcame four more touchdowns by Tamura for a 61-40 victory on Maui.
Despite the best efforts of Tamura and DeRamos, who had a hand in three touchdowns, the Trojans (1-0 BIIF, 1-1) couldn’t keep up with a Spartans offense that scored at least twice in each quarter.
DeRamos tossed an 85-yard touchdown pass to Tamura in the second quarter and the duo also hooked up on a 11-yard scoring play.
Tamura found the end zone on quarterback runs of 50 yards and 11, giving the senior seven touchdowns on the season for Ka’u, which is in its second year of eight-man.
Seabury Hall, which started its eight-man program in 2012, scored four touchdowns during a 15-minute spurt spanning the second and third quarters to take a 47-14 lead.
DeRamos opened the scoring for Ka’u on an eight-yard run, and the Trojans’ Kaimalu Dancel-Medeiros capped the scoring with a 16-yard scamper.
Anthony Emmsley-AhYee grabbed an interception for Ka’u.
