Health fair planned in Hilo

The 16th annual Early Signs Health Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Life Care Center of Hilo.

Service providers, agencies and practitioners will be on hand to provide free services including foot screens, chiropractic screens and bone density checks. Physicians will give presentations every half hour.

Quilters meet in Waimea

Mauna Kea Quilters will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the meeting room of the Thelma Parker Memorial Library in Waimea.

Founded in 1997, the group of patchwork quilters donates its work to raise money for organizations such as the Malaai culinary garden at Waimea Middle School and Relay for Life. All are welcome to the monthly meeting on the second Saturday of each month.

Book sale benefits Kona libraries

Friends of the Libraries, Kona will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the lanai of the Kailua-Kona Public Library. Proceeds support the needs of the Kona libraries, including summer reading programs, magazine subscriptions and book purchases.

As always, volunteers are welcome and book donations are accepted at the library. To volunteer, call 322-0077.

Vegetarian Society meets

Doc Martin, a Hippocrates Health Institute educated physician, will explain what gives Serena and Venus Williams and other top female tennis stars a competitive edge and the stamina to win during the Kona Vegetarian Society monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Pottery Terrace Suite 323.

Nonvegetarians are welcome.

Seniors plan outing to arts and crafts sale

Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 17 at Hale Halawai. Members will carpool to the arts and crafts sale held in conjunction with the Hawaii Kupuna Hula Festival at the Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay. Bring $3 to cover transportation.
