WSHLL baseball prepares for seasons

West Side Hawaii Little League is preparing for winter league and the 2015 baseball season. Volunteer coaches, umpires and scorekeepers are sought; new members from Kona or Waikoloa may register. For more information, contact WSHLL president Karl Gacayan at 960-0626 or emailkgacayan2@gmail.com.

Nobu Yamauchi winter league

The Nobu Yamauchi U-18 girls RBI softball and 13-18 boys baseball teams are accepting teams or players to participate in their winter league.

The season runs from mid-October to mid-December. The softball games will be played on Sundays and baseball during the weekdays.

County presents Keiki Triathlon

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Hawaii Isle Police Activities League will hold the third annual Keiki Triathlon as part of the Mayor’s Health Fest 2014 on Oct. 18, at Old Kona Airport Park.

Children ages 7 to 14 are invited to participate in a miniature version of the Ironman World Championship: 100-yard swim, 3.2-mile bicycle race and 1-mile run. The 7- and 8-year-olds will race half those distances.

The entrance fee is $5 per child. Registration ends Oct. 3. Forms are available at county swimming pools, gymnasiums and other staffed recreational sites, or can be downloaded at hawaiicounty.gov/parks-and-recreation.

Fitness paddleboard, canoe race

Mauna Lani Bay Hotels and Bungalows presents its fourth annual Hulakai and Da Hui Race to Fitness series beginning Sept. 27.

The 7.2-mile race starts from Kiholo Bay and finishes at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. The top three finishers receive prizes.

The race is open to standup and OC paddlers of all ages and skill levels.

HCC time trial

The Hawaii Cycling Club’s 22.2-mile “Out n Back Training Time Trial” takes place at 8 a.m. Sept. 20. The course starts at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery, heads north on Highway 19, makes a U-turn at Waikoloa Beach Road and ends with a sprint to the finish line at mile marker 85. Registration is at the cemetery from 7-7:40 a.m.

HPA to host fun run/dog walk benefit

Hawaii Preparatory Academy invites runners, walkers, friendly canines and families to participate in the fourth Bieni 5K Fun Run and Dog Walk at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 on the school’s cross-country course.

Net proceeds from the event will fund the annual Bieni Kohler-Johnson ’83 Scholarship at HPA. Registration and pledges are available online at flpregister.com/102.

Entry fee is $25 for adults, $10 for students 10 and under, with a late fee of an additional $10 after Sept. 9.
