Fall magic camp offered at SKEA

Students from ages 10 to 15 are encouraged to experience a hands-on creative magic intensive during the Society for Kona’s Education and Art’s Magic Camp. Classes will be taught by Kona magician, Arnie “Arneleo the Great” Rabin, and the internationally award winning team of Bruce and Jennifer Meyers.

The camp will run from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 6 through 10 at the SKEA building on Mamalahoa Highway between mile markers 105 and 106. Students will be given a personalized magic kit to take home.

Tuition is $75 for the week. Scholarships are available.

Committee on People with Disabilities to meet in Hilo

The Mayor’s Committee on People with Disabilities will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the ADRC training room at 1055 Kinoole St., in Hilo. The meetings are open to the public. The agenda will be posted on the County’s website.

Taste of the Hawaiian Range returns to Waikoloa

Thirty chefs will prepare local, forage-fed meats with fresh fruit, vegetables, fungi and herbs during the 19th Mealani’s Taste of the Hawaiian Range Sept. 26 at Hilton Waikoloa Village.

Founded in 1996 to kick-start the island’s grass-fed beef industry, the event supports area beef ranchers by encouraging them use of all the meat cuts and produce lamb, mutton, goat, pork and wild boar.

At 1:30 p.m. Sept. 26 “A Primer on Local Beef” seminar by livestock expert Glen Fukumoto will be geared to food industry members and culinary students, but is open to the public for free.

At 3 p.m., a “Cooking Pasture-Raised Beef 101” seminar by executive chef Peter Abarcar Jr. of the Hapuna Prince Beach Hotel is free for culinary students and $10 for the public. It includes sampling.

The Taste of the Hawaiian Range gala will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 presale, or $60 on the day of the event.
