Makalei Golf Club is under new ownership following the purchase of the 900-acre property by RLF Makalei LLC.

The golf course accounts for 400 acres, while the parcel’s remaining 500 acres will be used for agricultural and residential purposes. The golf course remains open and continues to be operated by Touchstone Golf.

“Makalei is a special place and we felt it immediately. In partnership with Touchstone Golf, our goal is to elevate the golf experience at Makalei for residents and visitors alike,” said Byron Levkulich, CPA principal at Resource Land Holdings. “We look forward to being a part of the community as we continue this project started almost 30 years ago.”

Designed by Dick Nugent & Associates, the 7,091-yard, par-72 course takes advantage of Hawaii’s beauty. Native palms and tropical foliage frame rolling greens, with forests, mountain slopes, elevation changes and volcanic features creating a strategically diverse backdrop for golf.

Multiple tees on each hole help golfers of all abilities enjoy the course, which serves as a sanctuary for wild pheasants, turkeys and peafowl. Among the most visually stunning holes is the par-3 15th hole, which has panoramic views of Maui’s Haleakala, some 90 miles across the ocean.

RLF Makalei LLC will continue to make conditions and playing experience a top priority. Beginning this month, several holes on the golf course will be re-routed to improve the pace of play, returning the course to its original design. Groups will start on what was previously hole No. 8, providing golfers with an opportunity to warm up on the driving range before heading out to play. A complimentary small bucket of balls will be included for each round of golf.

Complementing Makalei Golf Club’s course is an array of world-class amenities, including a golf practice facility situated at a 2,300-foot elevation featuring an all-grass driving range, putting green and chipping and short game area, with panoramic views of the Kona coastline; a clubhouse featuring a world-class golf shop; casual dining in the soon-to-be-renovated Peacock Grille; and an outdoor space, offering a picturesque setting for special events, with catering and event specialists on-site to assist with every detail.

Makalei is located at 72-3890 Hawaii Belt Road in Kailua-Kona. For more information, call 325-6625 or visit makalei.com.
