HONOLULU (AP) — A former University of Hawaii Foundation employee convicted of identity theft has been spared prison time.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (http://bit.ly/1uTAJoZ) reports 34-year-old Dodge Watson was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to three years’ probation.
He also was fined $2,000 and ordered to perform 150 hours of community service.
Watson pleaded guilty to identity theft in June.
Prosecutors say he stole $2,000 to pay a gambling debt.
Prosecutors say he forged signatures of other foundation employees to get approval for a $2,000 scholarship check made out to his bookie.
Watson has paid back the money he took.
