Nozomu Uemura

Nozomu Uemura, 80, of Kealakekua died Aug. 25, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 29, 1934, in Keei, he was a carpenter, coffee farmer, fisherman and member of the carpenter’s union, Kanaueue Kumiai, Kona Shinwakai and Kona Hongwanji.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Sept. 21 at Kona Hongwanji in Kealakekua for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by brothers, Ted (Jane) Uemura of Concord, Calif., Edward (Jean) Uemura of Mililani, Oahu, George (Agnes) Uemura of Honolulu; sisters, Eileen Fukumoto of Honolulu, Madeline Tanaka of Dededo of Guam, Ellen Tanioka of Waikele, Oahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Susan Dabritz

Susan “Sue” Dabritz, 50, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 12, 2014, at her residence. Born Dec. 10, 1963, in Delhi, N.Y., she was the former owner of SeaPics.com, worked as a second mate aboard Mobil’s oil tankers and as a broker at Thome and Partners Ship Brokering in Singapore.

A private service will be held Sept. 21. Friends may call at 4 p.m. Sept. 21 for a potluck gathering at her residence. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

She is survived by daughter, Kaili Yuen of Kailua-Kona; parents, Frederick and Joan Dabritz of Kailua-Kona; brother, Frederick (Jean) of Cherry Hill, N.J.; sister, Katherine (Gerald) of Newburyport, Mass.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ethel Higa

Ethel Mitsuko Higa, 73, of Keaau died Aug. 12, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired waitress.

Friends may call for a 9 a.m. service Sept. 22 at the New Hope Hilo Hawaii Gathering Place. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by son, Frank Mitsumura of Honolulu; sisters, Shirley Matsunaka of Hilo, Jean (Darwin) Sindt of San Diego, Sharon (Milton) Yamamoto of Honolulu, Helene (Bertram) Carvalho and Cindy (Wade) Takimoto, both of Keaau; brother, Leslie Nishihara of Kailua-Kona; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and gran nephews.

Staci Yoshiki

Staci Keiko Yoshiki, 35, of Honolulu died Sept. 12, 2014. Born June 20, 1979, in Hilo, she was a telecommunications receptionist.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary for a 2 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by parents, Harry Nobuo and Phyllis Chiemi Yoshiki of Honaunau; brothers, Scott (Daisy) Yoshiki of Ocean View, Shane (Lisa) Yoshiki of Honolulu; sister, Trisha (Brandon) Shimamura of Honolulu.

Amy Kawano

Amy Chiyoko Kawano, 97, of Waimea died Sept. 14, 2014, at her caregiver’s residence in Kailua-Kona. Born April 29, 1917, in Kainaliu, she was a vegetable farmer, photographer, Japanese language instructor, piano teacher and member of the Japanese American Civic Club and Kamuela Hongwanji Mission.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at Kamuela Hongwanji Mission for a 5 p.m. service. Monetary contributions may be made in her memory to the Kamuela Hongwanji Mission. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by sons, Wendell (Lorraine) Kawano of Waimea, Ray (Cathy) Kawano of Denver; brothers, Tatsumi Oue and Herbert Oue, both of Kealakekua, Francis (Claire) Oue of Keauhou; sister, Patricia Oue of Kealakekua; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Tadashi Kaku

Tadashi Kaku, 100, of Kailua-Kona died July 18, 2014, at his caregiver’s residence. Born Sept. 5, 1913, in Honaunau, he was a coffee farmer and member of Honaunau Kumiai No. 2 and Kona Kumamoto Kenjin Kai.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts.

He is survived by sons, Kenneth (Anna) Kaku of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., James (Patricia) Kaku of Fullerton, Calif., Albert (Louzana) Kaku of Cerritos, Calif., Maurice Kaku of Honaunau; sister, Edith Sonoda of Honolulu; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
