Daughters of Hawaii and Calabash Cousins meet

Daughters of Hawaii and Calabash Cousins will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday on the lawn at Hulihee Palace on Alii Drive. Information of upcoming activities and events will be discussed.

Lava flow update meeting set

Representatives from Hawaii County Civil Defense and Hawaiian Volcano Observatory will give a lava flow update at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Pahoa High School cafeteria.

In addition, the County has established an incident command center and informational resource center that is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Pahoa Community Center. Buddhist class offered in Volcano

A Buddhist class on the Lamrim teaching of death and impermanence will be held from 4 to 5:45 p.m Sunday at Niaulani Volcano Art Center in Volcano Village.

The class will also explore the tantric meditation on death and the stages of dying. The class is free and open to nonBuddhists with no experience is required. For more information, call 985-7470.

A walk in the park planned Sunday

The public is invited to join the Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes Park for a “Sunday Walk in the Park” from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Led by wildlife biologist Thane Pratt, the 3.5-mile walk explores the summit area of the park. Be prepared for variable weather conditions including sun, wind, rain and cold.

The hike is free for Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes Park members. Nonmembers may join to attend. Annual memberships are $30 for individuals and $45 for families.

Valentine’s Day party to raise funds for Rotary Club

Rotary Club of Kona Mauka is planning a decadent Valentine’s Day party with gourmet food, fine wine, live music and a silent auction hosted at a private, oceanfront estate.
