Keiki ages 5-15 will have an opportunity to become “Ironkids” and compete on the same course as the athletes in the 2014 World Championship. The age-appropriate fun aims to help stem the rising tide of childhood obesity through exercise and healthy lifestyles.

A parade on Alii Drive will showcase the competitors who have come to town from all over the world.

Thursday7:30 a.m.Underpants RunKing Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel

The Underpants Run tradition continues into its 17th year. This year, the group is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing only underpants/knickers. The 1.5-mile course will start and finish in the back parking lot of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, where the Ironman banquets take place. Saturday6:25 a.m.Race dayStarting at Kailua Pier

The 140.6-mile journey begins in Kailua Bay at 6:25 a.m. with the male professional/elite athletes. The professional female field begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by the age-group male athletes at 6:50 and the age-group females at 7. The first finishers are expected around 2:30 p.m., and the race ends at midnight.

NBC will air the World Championship in a 1 1/2-hour special.
