Keiki Triathlon, health fest canceled

The Mayor’s 2014 Health Fest and Keiki Triathlon scheduled for Saturday at Old Kona Airport Park have been canceled because of the threat of hurricane.

Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Hawaii Isle Police Activities League, triathlon co-sponsors, thank event participants and the public for understanding the need to focus on public safety.

First Tee program starts up

The First Tee Hawaii Program will start a new session Oct. 26 at Makalei Golf Course.

The one-hour program, for ages 7-18, starts at 3 p.m.

Registration is 2-2:15 p.m. at the clubhouse, and the fee for the session is $25 per child.

The program covers topics such as respect for oneself and environment.

Clubs are provided for beginners.

Waverider Triathlon Club hosts Reaper 5K

The Waverider Triathlon Club will host the Race the Reaper 5K at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Keauhou Shopping Center.

The cost is $20 in advance; $25 race day. There will be T-shirts for finishers.

Born to Move classes at Fitness Forever

Fitness Forever is offering Les Mills’ Born to Move classes for keiki ages 4-12. The program gives children a chance to learn team-building skills and tips for healthy living, while also building their self-esteem and coordination.

Fitness Forever is located on Kaiwi Street, near its intersection with Kuakini Highway.

LavaKids Run Clinic

LavaKids Run Clinic will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Kealakehe Intermediate School.

This is a free event; running shoes are required. Keiki will receive tips from some of West Hawaii’s best runners.

WSHLL baseball prepares for seasons

Waimea offers volleyball league

Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Waimea Athletics, offers an age-group volleyball league through Nov. 19, Tuesdays and Thursdays in October; Mondays and Wednesdays in November. Games start at 4:30 p.m. at various gyms.

Fees are $10 payable to Waimea Athletics. Volunteer coaches are needed.

Veterans Day baseball tournament

The Andrews Pony Braves and Indians are looking for teams for their Veterans Day Baseball Tournament scheduled Nov. 7-11.

The tournament — open to teams in the Pinto, Mustang and Bronco divisions — will be held at the Walter Victor Baseball Complex, Wong Stadium, Andrews Gym and Carvalho Park.

There will be a maximum of eight teams per division.
